Role of physical exercise in fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is a chronic disease characterized by muscle pain, soft tissue tenderness, and other symptoms such as fatigue.
This chronic disease affects around 3% to 8% of the population.
It is a complex and debilitating condition and pharmacological treatment has proven to be ineffective, so greater attention has been given to the non-pharmacological aspect, particularly with regard to physical exercise.
Physical activity has a positive effect on reducing pain, improving quality of life and depression.
It is understood that the continuous practice of physical exercises has several benefits for the physical and psychological well-being of the practitioner, being a great aid in protecting against diseases and maintaining a healthy life, helping in the treatment of some pathologies.
When practiced regularly and with guidance, exercise can provide the following benefits: Relief from pain and muscle stiffness, improved sleep, improved mood and reduced stress, increased resistance and energy, improved cognitive function, and muscle and joint strengthening.
